A midyear reintroduction 🤍
I’ve had Substack for approximately nine months now and I’d like to take a moment to reintroduce myself here in this little corner of the internet. My name’s Lizzy, and I have been a mental health therapist since 2013. Four years ago I made the decision to revisit my dream of being a writer, and it has been quite the emotional and exciting experience. Writing has allowed me to dig deeper within myself and as a result, broadened my ability to show up for my clients and for the people I care about. Although my intent was to dive into fantasy fiction, the opportunities to write nonfiction and poetry came up unexpectedly.
As I mentioned in my first introduction, I would like to use this space to highlight the nonfiction projects I’m working on, given that those will be out in the world soon. The first and probably the most personal is an untitled poetry manuscript that will be published this fall with Alegria Publishing. In this project, I highlight my own battles with mental health, healing my unhealthy attachments, and the process of becoming the woman I am today. Themes in this work include depression/anxiety, being an eldest daughter in an immigrant household, friendship, love, sex, and femininity.
Made Well is another manuscript that’s been in the works for over a year. This one is one geared towards supporting women in the process of self-discovery during their season of dating. This book, which I am cowriting with my friend Drew, is an invitation for women to do an honest self-assessment and to guide them in learning how to minimize thoughts and behaviors that work against them. The heart of this work is to remind women that in order to be seen by others, they must first see- and love- themselves. Some of the themes we highlight can be read here in this article that we published with IDONTMIND earlier this year: Chemistry is not enough on its own: DISCOVERING WHAT TRULY MATTERS IN MAKING CONNECTIONS LAST.
I am a combination of excited, nervous, and confident that these books have a place in the world and I look forward to posting updates as I have them! For now, thank you for being here 😊
xoxo,
Lizzy
